  2. Berries: Like cruciferous vegetables, berries—including blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries—have been found to provide a protective effect against T1D. The study showed an HR of 0.60 for T1D in relation to berry consumption, highlighting their potential role in diabetes prevention, possibly due to their antioxidant properties and anti-inflammatory effects.

Risky Food: Bananas

The study contrasted the protective effects of certain foods with a concerning association found with banana consumption. It showed that higher banana intake is linked to an increased risk of both islet autoimmunity (IA) and type 1 diabetes (T1D), with hazard ratios of 1.08 and 1.11, respectively. Researchers have not yet fully understood the exact mechanism behind this association. However, these findings highlight the need for further investigation into how high-sugar fruits like bananas may influence autoimmunity and diabetes.
